Thanksgiving Travellers Advised To Plan Ahead For Ferry Trips

BC Ferries is asking Thanksgiving-weekend travellers to plan ahead as holiday traffic begins building along the coast.

The company expects increased traffic as people travel between Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, the Sunshine Coast and smaller coastal communities.

Passengers can reduce the possibility of a lengthy wait by booking ahead on reservable routes and arriving at the terminal within the check-in window listed with their reservation.

Vehicle reservations may be forfeited if customers arrive after the required check-in time.

People travelling without a booking should be prepared for heavier traffic and possible sailing waits, particularly during popular travel periods.

When possible, passengers are encouraged to consider travelling outside the busiest times.

Before leaving home, customers should check the BC Ferries website or mobile app for current terminal conditions, available space and last-minute service notices.

Travellers should also review their schedules carefully, as departure times and vessel assignments can change.

Terminal webcams and service-notice alerts can provide additional information before beginning a trip.

BC Ferries recommends keeping important items, including medication, in an accessible bag in case the journey takes longer than expected.

Schedules, terminal conditions and other Thanksgiving travel information are available at BC Ferries.
