A section of Idiens Trail remains closed while the City of Courtenay waits for provincial approval to remove a hazardous tree.

The closure is between Inverclyde Way and Nairn Place, where a dead trembling aspen contains a historical bald eagle nest and a pileated woodpecker nest.

The City has received the required federal permit but is still waiting for a General Wildlife Permit from the Province before the tree can be removed.

Officials expect the permit to be issued and the tree risk to be addressed by early fall.

For safety purposes, community members are asked to follow the posted detour and obey all trail closure signage.

The detour uses the Town of Comox sidewalk on the opposite side of the street.
