One youth is in custody after several people were assaulted in downtown Courtenay on Wednesday.
At around 9am, Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a person assaulting people with a knife in front of the library.
Thanks to the efforts of frontline officers and members of the public, the suspect was successfully apprehended within minutes.
Inspector Scott Mercer said police understand the concern the event may have caused but he wanted to reassure the public that there is no ongoing threat.
He added the quick response by members of the public and officers played a critical role in preventing any further harm.
Fortunately, there were no reports of serious physical injuries. Comox Valley RCMP Victim Services is available to anyone affected by this incident.
The suspect, a youth, will remain in custody until their court appearance.
