School District 72 Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Morrow has handed in his resignation to the district - but he’s not going far for his next position.

Dr. Morrow will be leaving the school district as of July 31 to accept the position of superintendent with the Comox Valley School District.

"Dr. Morrow's commitment to keeping children at the centre of every decision and aligning our system around the board's strategic plan has been change making over the past five years," says School District 72 Board Chair Kat Eddy.

"It is from this strong foundation that the board continues to draft our upcoming 2024-2029 strategic plan, due for release in January 2024."

The Campbell River School District will start looking for a permanent replacement but has announced Associate Superintendent Philip Cizmic will fill in on an interim basis.

"Philip moves into this position seamlessly and has proven his capabilities numerous times as we navigated the challenges of the pandemic," says Eddy.

"We are pleased to have a depth of experience in our senior management team that can be utilized in extraordinary circumstances."

Comox Valley Schools Board Chair Michelle Waite says they’re excited, adding his ‘’vast experience working with partner groups and unwavering dedication to fostering student success’’ will enrich their community and schools.

In a release, the district says Dr. Morrow brings with him a deep commitment to reconciliation and equity, while focusing on the success of Indigenous students.

He has worked over the years to establish relationships with local nations and the Indigenous partner groups.

According to the district his focus on improving graduation rates for Indigenous students and addressing barriers to achievement, aligns with their priorities.

Dr. Morrow served SD 72 for the past fourteen years, five as superintendent.
