After 47 years of swimming lessons, family outings and community memories, the current pool at Strathcona Gardens is getting a final send-off.

The pool’s last day of public access will be Friday, September 25.

Residents can stop by the lobby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for cake and a display of photographs and news articles spanning nearly five decades.

A Farewell Fun Swim will follow from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Activities will include Jell-O-themed games, bubbles and food-grade colouring in the hot tub and leisure pool, and a section of the new Wibit obstacle course in the main pool.

The current facility is closing as Strathcona Gardens prepares to open its new aquatic centre to the public on October 16.

Advance registration will be required for the centre’s initial offerings.
