Strathcona Gardens Service Expansion To Go To Voters Next Month

Voters in Campbell River, Electoral Area D and the Quadra Island portion of Electoral Area C will decide this fall whether Quadra Island should join the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Centre service.

The question will appear on ballots for the October 17 local government election. Campbell River and Area D, which includes Oyster Bay and Buttle Lake, already participate in the service.

If voters approve Bylaw 643, Quadra Island would become a participating area as well.

The proposed bylaw would also change how costs are shared. Its formula would use 100 percent of Campbell River’s converted hospital assessment, 90 percent of Area D’s and 80 percent of Quadra Island’s to calculate each area’s share.

Those percentages are factors used in the calculation. They do not mean the three areas would pay 100, 90 and 80 percent of the total bill.

Eligible residents and non-resident property owners in the three voting areas can cast one vote on the question, regardless of how many properties they own there.
