Transit riders in the Comox Valley will see expanded service and updated fares in the new year.
Beginning January 1st, BC Transit and the Comox Valley Regional District say the biggest change is on Route 5 Vanier–Anfield, which will receive more daytime trips and new routing through West Courtenay. Buses will run along Cumberland, McPhee, 17th, Piercy and 26th, connecting through to Driftwood Mall and Anfield Centre seven days a week.
The expanded service will also provide improved access to the Comox Valley Sports Centre, GP Vanier Secondary, the Farmers Market, and the Comox Valley Food Bank.
Sunday schedules will also improve on Route 2 Cumberland, Route 6 Uplands and Route 8 Downtown.
The expansion was made possible through increased provincial and local government funding, with operating dollars in the 2025–26 provincial budget allowing BC Transit and the CVRD to keep service reliable and continue growing the system in the years ahead.
Fares will also change for the first time since 2018. The single-ride fare will increase to $2.75, while the Adult 30-Day Pass will rise to $60 and the Concession 30-Day Pass will be $40.
Other fare adjustments include DayPASS fares increasing to $5.50, Student Semester Passes increasing to $125, and dual system passes for Comox Valley and Campbell River going up by $10.
Two new programs will launch the same day.
The BC Transit ProPASS will be available for employers offering payroll-deducted transit benefits, and the EcoPASS will be an option for developers incorporating transit-oriented plans at new sites.
