School District 72 trustees are taking additional time to consider the proposed 2025-2026 operating Budget and the recommendations to address the district’s projected $949,000 operating deficit.
At its recent meeting, the Board of Education did not unanimously agree to proceed with all three required readings for the annual budget.
The third and final reading will again come back for board vote, at the June 17th public meeting.
Earlier this month, the Campbell River District Teachers’ Association shared concerns over the budget, namely the potential impacts of proposed reductions on students, staff, and the broader school community.
Budget planning began earlier this year. Boards of Education are required to submit a balanced budget by the end of June each year.
