Campbell River residents are being invited to roll up their sleeves and help make the community a little cleaner this Thursday.

The Rotary Club of Campbell River is hosting a city-wide cleanup on October 1, beginning at 4 p.m. outside the Lighthouse Entrance of the Maritime Heritage Centre.

Free biodegradable cleanup bags will be available, and volunteers can join a team heading to streets, beaches, parks, trails and other areas around the city that could use some extra attention.

Anyone unable to arrive at 4 p.m. can still participate by gathering family members, friends, neighbours or coworkers and choosing an area to clean independently.

The organized cleanup continues until 7 p.m., when participants will be invited to a community social at Boston Pizza to celebrate the work completed throughout the afternoon.

Participating groups of four will also receive a free basic nacho platter for their table.

No advance registration is required.

Anyone interested in joining the organized cleanup can simply arrive outside the Maritime Heritage Centre’s Lighthouse Entrance at 4 p.m.

The Rotary Club is also encouraging residents who cannot take part Thursday to organize their own neighbourhood cleanup on another day.
