The Province has launched an advertising campaign aimed at getting American doctors and nurses to work in BC.

Targeting Washington state, Oregon and California, Health Minister Josie Osborne says with the chaos and uncertainty happening in the U.S., they are seizing the opportunity to attract the talent needed to strengthen the health-care system in British Columbia.

Since March, the Province says  nearly 1,600 people have expressed interest in moving to the province, including 704 doctors and 525 nurses.

That doesn’t include any numbers from last week, when the campaign launched.

In April, the Province streamlined the application process so U.S. nurses can be registered in just a few days, compared to the previous average of four months.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons is also working on changes to get doctors licensed more quickly.
