The Comox Valley RCMP has a plan to target youth this summer and hand out tickets, but for good.

Over the summer, Comox Valley RCMP members will be looking for youth involved in safe and healthy activities.

They’ll be rewarded with vouchers for a free activity or treat from a local business or organization.

The purpose is to continue building positive relationships with local youth and encourage kind and safe behaviour.

The tickets will be handed out for behaviour such as wearing a helmet while riding a bike, scooter, rollerblades or skateboard; crossing the street at a marked crosswalk, acts of kindness, being active outside, and more.

Constable Monika Terragni says the initiative is one of the highlights of their summer, adding officers love connecting with youth in a positive way.

She says it’s not everyday they get to hand out ‘tickets’ that make someone smile.

Terragni calls it a win for the community, a win for young people, and a win for the amazing local businesses that help make it all possible.

If you are a business that would like to get involved, contact Constable Terragni at (250) 338-1321 or visit Comox Valley RCMP.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
