Police have located a grey Toyota Tacoma pickup that was involved in the serious crash of a Honda Civic near Parksville.

Investigators are now focusing on finding more witnesses and dash-camera video to determine exactly what happened.

On Sunday, January 18, just after 2:00 p.m., a dark grey 2020 Toyota Tacoma was in the northbound lanes on Highway #19, near the Church Road overpass, when the driver had an interaction with a blue Honda Civic driving at highway speed.

The Honda Civic lost control and struck a tree, and the 38-year-old Courtenay man who was the lone occupant has serious, life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma did not stop at the scene of the crash, but the vehicle was located by police on Monday, January 19.

If you have dash-camera video of the events leading up to the collision, or you saw the grey Toyota Tacoma driving away, BC RCMP requests that you call BC Highway Patrol – Campbell River at 250-286-5646 and quote file (7001) 2026-108.
