Comox Valley RCMP are looking for witnesses after a man was struck and killed by a car near Courtenay on Tuesday.

Police say the 35 year old man was laying in the road when a vehicle nearly missed hitting him.

The driver of that vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and activated their hazard lights in an effort to warn other oncoming drivers.

Unfortunately, one of the oncoming drivers did not see the man lying in the road and struck him.

Police say the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

The RCMP says it will continue to work with the BC Coroners Service to find out exactly what happened, including whether the victim may have suffered an injury or medical incident beforehand.

The incident occurred in the 39-hundred block of Ryan Road around 1am Wednesday. If you saw anything , or have dashcam footage, please contact the RCMP.
