As the weather warms up, the City of Courtenay is thanking residents for giving its street sweeping crew the space they need to operate safely and efficiently.
The City notes that street sweeping isn't just about aesthetics. It plays a crucial role in removing winter's residual sand and debris, enhancing air and water quality, preventing materials from clogging storm drains, and reducing road wear while keeping lanes clear.
Meanwhile, as part of Public Works Week, Courtenay is hosting an open house, from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, where the community can get a behind-the-scenes look at city operations.
Free public parking for the event is available at 1094 McKenzie Avenue.
Heavy equipment will be on display along with live demonstrations, interactive exhibits highlighting essential city services, guided facility tours, tree and plant giveaways, and more.
The City says this year’s theme, “People, Purpose, Presence,” recognizes the dedication and community impact of public works professionals who help keep the city running smoothly every day.
