The Province is reminding people to plan ahead and stay safe as they head into the B.C. Day long weekend.

With 129 active wildfires burning across the province, officials are urging travellers to check fire restrictions, road conditions, and air quality before heading out.

Open burning, including campfires, remains prohibited across much of southern B.C.

People are also encouraged to have an emergency plan, pack grab-and-go bags, and be ready in case evacuation alerts or orders are issued.

Drivers should expect heavier-than-normal traffic and are advised to check DriveBC before travelling, while outdoor enthusiasts are reminded to help prevent human-caused wildfires by following all fire regulations and reporting any new fires immediately.

The Province is also encouraging residents to follow local water restrictions where they're in place and use FireSmart practices to help protect their homes from wildfire.
