The City of Campbell River is working with the province and the BC RCMP on a joint initiative to expand integrated major crime services to all communities on Vancouver Island.
“While (VIIMCU) has served participating communities well, the time has come to modernize the model and provide the opportunity for all Island municipalities to join a new, expanded, Island-wide integrated unit,” said Public Safety Minister, Mike Farnworth, in a letter to Campbell River Mayor Kermit Dahl in December.
The city says it recognizes the need for modernized major crime service and supports the proposed expansion of the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit to other Vancouver Island communities, including Campbell River.
It’s hoped that an integrated model would help ensure resources are in place to investigate major crimes and bring closure and resolution to individuals, families, and communities.
