The Province says a targeted approach aimed at repeat violent offenders is delivering measurable improvements in public safety, with fewer police interactions, faster court processes, and increased accountability.

“The repeat violent offending program is proving a co-ordinated intervention that is making a real difference in our communities,” said Nina Krieger, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

“The impact is far-reaching for people’s safety in their neighbourhoods and downtown cores, with violent offenders being better monitored and kept off our streets for longer.”

An internal provincial evaluation shows police interactions involving accused individuals dropped by about 50 percent after people were designated under the Repeat Violent Offending Intervention Initiative, known as ReVOII.

Interactions involving violent offences declined even further, while charge approvals were processed more quickly in high-risk cases.

The initiative brings together police, dedicated Crown prosecutors, correctional supervisors, probation officers, and community-integration specialists.

The focus is on identifying repeat violent offenders early, applying enhanced case management and monitoring, and ensuring timely enforcement while also connecting individuals with appropriate support to help break cycles of reoffending.

The evaluation found individuals in the program spent more time in provincial custody, reflecting closer supervision and stronger justice-system responses.

Those who engage with the program are staying charge-free for longer periods, while those who continue to reoffend are facing quicker enforcement actions and longer periods of incarceration.
