Premier David Eby is in India this week for a trade mission aimed at promoting British Columbia businesses and expanding opportunities in areas like critical minerals and sustainable wood products.
The trip will begin on Monday and conclude Saturday with stops in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Bengaluru.
Joining Eby will be Jobs Minister Ravi Kahlon.
They said the goal of the trip is to strengthen relations with what is expected to become the third-largest economy in the world.
“British Columbia is currently the largest trading partner India has in Canada, and we’re looking to expand that,” said Eby, refering to forestry, energy, life sciences and tech as some of the sectors that will be under discussion.
The province says the mission is focused on strengthening economic ties, supporting good-paying jobs in B.C., and positioning the province as a key driver of Canada’s future economy.
The trip is part of the province’s Look West: Jobs and Prosperity for B.C. and Canada strategy, which aims to double exports to non-U.S. markets over the next 10 years.
Jobs and Economic Growth Minister Ravi Kahlon will also take part in the mission, running through Saturday.
