The investigation continues after a young mother and her infant child died after a tree limb fell at Cumberland Lake Park.

The tragic incident occurred Thursday, July 31, 2025.

On behalf of the Village of Cumberland, Mayor Vickey Brown has offered strength, love, compassion and sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the young woman and infant who died in this terrible accident, and acknowledged the courageous efforts of Lake Park staff, bystanders, and emergency responders to try and save these lives.

Comox Valley RCMP are investigating the incident and have not provided further details.

The Village says it will be reviewing the circumstances around this accident to see what can be learned from the tragedy.
