The annual New Year’s Day ocean plunge is set to return to Goose Spit Park, giving residents a brisk and spirited start to 2026.

Registration opens at 10:30am on January 1, with the plunge set for 11am.

The long-running community tradition invites participants of all ages to take a quick dip in Comox Bay.

The event is free, family-friendly, and costumes are encouraged to help add to the festive mood.

After the swim, participants can warm up with free hot chocolate—organizers ask people to bring their own mug.

Those who register on site will also be entered for a chance to win a range of prizes including Fitness Studio memberships, Comox Recreation gift certificates, passes to the Comox Valley Regional District’s Aquatic and Sports Centre, and Mount Washington lift tickets.

Comox Fire Rescue and a lifeguard will be on hand to support event safety. Parking at Goose Spit is expected to be limited, so attendees are encouraged to carpool or use active transportation.

Families are reminded that children under six must be accompanied by an adult, swimmers should limit their time in the water, and warm layers are recommended before and after the dip.

Full event details can be found at Town of Comox.
