Prime Minister Mark Carney is calling for the immediate return to the negotiating table after the U.S. struck Iran’s nuclear programme on the weekend.
The attack specifically targeted nuclear facilities.
Calling it a grave threat to international security, he says Canada has been consistently clear that Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.
The PM says while the U.S. military action was designed to alleviate the threat, the situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile.
In a post to social media this morning, Carney said he spoke with U.S. President Trump overnight, focusing on de-escalating the conflict, their shared commitment to a stronger NATO at last week's G7 summit, and the progress in the ongoing tariff war between the two countries.
