The investigation continues to determine the cause of a small plane crash in a wooded area southwest of Nanaimo early yesterday morning, killing the lone occupant aboard.
RCMP say the crash was reported at approximately 3am Thursday near Twilight Way, just off Nanaimo River Road.
The aircraft was operated by Campbell River based Sealand Flight, which also operates out of Courtenay, Powell River, and Qualicum Beach.
"Aviation is a small community, and Sealand Flight is like a family.", said Bill Alder, president of Sealand Flight.
"Our hearts go out to the pilot's family during this incredibly difficult time."
Emergency responders, including paramedics, were dispatched after the crash; however, no survivors were found at the scene.
The RCMP confirmed the sole occupant, the pilot, was killed.
The B.C. Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are aware of the crash and working with all parties to gather information.
