One person has died, and another is injured following a late-night all-terrain vehicle crash on Mount Washington, according to the Comox Valley RCMP.
On Saturday around 10:30 p.m., Mounties were called to a trail near Nordic Drive and Strathcona Parkway, where two people were pinned under the ATV about 700 metres from the trailhead.
Both occupants were reported to be injured, while one was unconscious.
RCMP say the ATV’s driver, a woman in her early 30s, was found deceased when officers arrived. They say a male passenger was able to free himself and was treated for minor injuries.
Rescue crews had trouble locating the crash scene, which was along an old road leading up to the resort, because of the network of trails in the area.
Members of the Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue, firefighters from Oyster River and paramedics with BC Ambulance Service also responded alongside RCMP, who were on scene for several hours conducting their investigation.
RCMP say criminal charges won’t be recommended.
