North Island - Powell River MP and NDP Veterans Affairs critic Rachel Blaney rose in parliament, for the second time this week, to urge the government to offer better supports for women Veterans.
Despite risking their lives to protect the country, Blaney says there’s almost no understanding of the experiences women Veterans have had. In the spring, she opened a study into the lived experiences of women Veterans’ treatment of injuries, physical and mental health issues, professional and economic life challenges as steps to fix the issue.
Blaney notes many women Veterans will be attending commemoration services tomorrow - and too many of them will be asked if the medals they are wearing belonged to their husband, or their son, or their father.
There will be several Remembrance Day ceremonies throughout the region tomorrow, with flybys from the Royal Canadian Air Force happening across the country, including in Campbell River, Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland, and Qualicum Beach.
