Work is set to begin this month on a new sidewalk project along one of Courtenay’s busier roads.

The City of Courtenay is adding approximately 350 metres of sidewalk along Ryan Road, between Back Road and Sandwick Road.

The project is designed to fill a gap in the city’s pedestrian network and improve safety for people walking between neighbourhoods, accessing nearby homes, North Island College, and a BC Transit stop in the area.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-September and take about three months to complete.

To limit traffic disruptions, most of the work will happen overnight between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. One lane will be closed during construction, but the city says significant traffic delays are not expected.

The nearby bus stop may also be temporarily relocated, with BC Transit posting notices for riders if that happens.
