Quadra Island residents will soon have a new place to drop off their recycling.
Comox Strathcona Waste Management says the Quadra Island Recycling Depot is moving to a new location at 657 Industrial Way, at the corner of West Road and Industrial Way, with the new facility set to open to the public on May 30th.
The staffed depot will operate Fridays through Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., including statutory holidays.
From May through October, existing mixed recycling bins will be available at the new site, along with new cardboard collection bins.
The depot is also preparing to transition into a full Recycle BC-supported facility, but officials say that process has been delayed until October while a province-wide transportation contract is finalized.
In the meantime, Recycle BC pop-up collection events will be held twice a month for materials including flexible plastics, glass, and foam.
Pop-up weekends are scheduled throughout the summer, beginning May 30th and continuing into September.
An on-site operator will be available during business hours to help residents sort materials properly and prepare for the full Recycle BC transition later this year.
