The Cumberland Community Schools Society is set to launch a new festive event - the Holiday and Gift Emporium.
It’s taking place Monday, December 8th from 2:45pm to 7pm in the Strathcona Gym at Cumberland Community School.
Families are invited to shop for gently used toys, books, games and household items, all available by donation.
Organizers say it’s an affordable and sustainable way for children to pick out gifts for friends and siblings.
The event will also feature coffee, baked treats, and holiday cards created by local artist Sally Podmore. Kids can write letters to Santa and have gifts wrapped on-site.
Alongside the emporium, the Society’s annual online silent auction is now underway. Items up for bid include artwork, clothing and gift cards, and many will be on display at the event for people to view in person before placing a final bid.
The auction closes December 12th at 9pm.
Both initiatives support the Nourish a Neighbour fundraising campaign, which aims to raise $65 thousand by the end of January to help address food insecurity in the community.
The Society says its food programs prepare more than fifty-two hundred meals per month, with a portion provided free to families in need.
The organization also delivers bi-weekly food hampers to seventy-six households in the area.
