The Village of Cumberland has a new Chief Administrative Officer.

The Village of Cumberland has a new Chief Administrative Officer.

Michelle Mason had been acting as interim CAO following the resignation of Clayton Postings in April.

Mason is well known to Council, staff and the Cumberland community, having lived in Cumberland for over 26 years and having worked for the Village since 2009.

Mason, a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), has spent years working in local and First Nation governments, including time with the City of Campbell River.

As CAO, Mason will be responsible for managing the community’s day-to-day affairs while acting as key advisor and liaison to Council.

Mason’s professional knowledge and experience, along with an intimate understanding of Cumberland, will ensure that the organization continues to move forward on Council and community priorities.

"I look forward to continuing to work for the Council to support long term strategic planning and provide strong leadership for the organization," said Mason. "We’ve seen significant change in the Village over the past few years and I hope to offer a steady helm as we continue to implement Council’s goals and improve and expand community services and infrastructure."

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
