April 28th marks the National Day of Mourning.

April 28th marks the National Day of Mourning.

It’s a day where workers, families, employers & others come together at events held around the province to remember those who have lost their lives on the job or been seriously injured, and to renew a commitment to creating safer workplaces.

163 people in British Columbia lost their lives last year in the workplace.

Because of the pandemic, virtual events were held the past two years, however, community members will gather at Frank James Park in Campbell River in person on April 28th.

Community members will also gather for a ceremony at the Simms Park Pavilion in Courtenay beginning at 10 o’clock.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
