Residents across Campbell River and the Comox Valley should expect a number of municipal and recreation facility closures Wednesday for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

In Courtenay, City Hall, the Operations Centre, Fire Hall, Lewis Centre, Florence Filberg Centre and LINC Youth Centre will be closed for the day.

Comox Town Hall, the Comox Community Centre and the Municipal Works Yard will also be closed, along with Cumberland’s Village Office and Recreation Centre.

Comox Valley RD offices, the Comox Valley Sports Centre and the Aquatic Centre will also be unavailable Wednesday.

Anyone planning a trip to the dump should make other arrangements, as both the Comox Valley and Campbell River waste-management centres will be closed.

Residents are also encouraged to check their community’s curbside collection schedule because statutory holidays can affect pickup days in some municipalities.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours First Nations, Inuit and Métis residential-school Survivors, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities that continue to live with the impacts of the residential-school system.

Local governments are encouraging residents to use the day as an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect, participate in community activities and consider the continuing work of reconciliation.
