Comox Valley RCMP and School District 71 have completed their highly anticipated Mountie Camp, an initiative aimed at engaging and inspiring local youth.
Mountie Camp brought together a diverse group of 24 enthusiastic young individuals between the ages of 15 and 17 last month.
The camp, led by RCMP officers, provided a unique opportunity for local youth to learn about law enforcement, build valuable life skills, and foster positive relationships with law enforcement professionals.
Participants engaged in a range of activities designed to promote teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills, while getting the opportunity to delve into various aspects of law enforcement, including crime scene investigations, police vehicle operations, physical fitness and readiness, drill and deportment, mental health, police dog services, major crimes, traffic investigations and more.
The camp culminated with a formal graduation ceremony held on May 19th when family members, community leaders, and distinguished guests joined the participants to celebrate their achievements and the personal growth they experienced throughout the program.
Mayors from the Village of Cumberland and The City of Courtenay attended, along with representatives from CFB Comox, Crime Stoppers, and Komox First Nation.
Constable Monika Terragni says the impact the program has had on the kids’ personal development was visible throughout the week and was truly inspiring.
