Monkeypox vaccines are being administered in Courtenay this week.
Monkeypox vaccines are being administered in Courtenay this week. Island Health has launched a targeted vaccination campaign for those currently at highest risk of acquiring and spreading monkeypox.
The current vaccine supply is limited and misidentifying oneself as eligible may take away from the people at highest risk.
Appointments are being accepted for this afternoon and again on Friday at the Courtenay Health Unit on England Avenue.
They can be booked online at https://www.islandhealth.ca/learn-about-health/diseases-conditions/monkeypox and are mandatory as drop-ins are not allowed.
Island Health says it's important that only those eligible sign up for an appointment to be vaccinated to prevent transmission and protect the wider population from outbreak.
Eligibility requirements can also be found on their website.
