Comox Valley residents may notice an increased military presence this week as members of the 19 Wing Auxiliary Security Force take part in scheduled training exercises.
The weeklong security course begins today and will continue through Friday, October 9, at both 19 Wing Comox and the military training site at Seal Bay.
Participants will be dressed in combat uniforms and carrying military equipment and weapons during the exercises.
However, 19 Wing officials emphasize that no ammunition will be carried as part of the training.
The course is intended to give Auxiliary Security Force members an opportunity to practise the procedures and skills they would use while supporting security operations at the Wing.
The training will conclude with a final exercise on Friday.
That activity may affect the flow of vehicles entering 19 Wing, and drivers should be prepared for possible delays around the base entrance.
Residents and visitors are being reminded that the increased military activity is part of routine training and does not need to be reported to 19 Wing Comox or local emergency services.
Anyone with questions about the exercises can contact 19 Wing Comox Public Affairs by calling 250-339-8201 or emailing 19wingpublicaffairs@forces.gc.ca..
