Mid Island Co-op is expanding its presence in the North Island with the purchase of two Discovery Foods grocery store locations in Campbell River and Oyster River.
The Nanaimo-based co-operative has reached an agreement with Discovery Foods Limited and will take over operations in mid-November.
“Co-op is part of our local community and shares the values of knowledge and services that Discovery Foods has provided to our customers for nearly 60 years,” said the Nicholas and Farmer families, owners, Discovery Foods.
“Mid Island Co-op has been an integral part of our local community, and this acquisition will continue that legacy in the central and North Island trading area.”
Mid Island Co-op CEO Ian Anderson says the move aligns with the Co-op’s long-term strategy to diversify services and strengthen its local presence.
Once the transition is complete, both stores will be rebranded under the Co-op name. The change also secures local jobs and supports continued economic activity in the region.
