British Columbia is receiving international support as crews continue to battle an active wildfire season.

More than 100 wildfire personnel from Mexico arrived in the province on B.C. Day, with another 200 expected later this week to assist the BC Wildfire Service.

Forests Minister Ravi Parmar says the additional firefighters will strengthen the province's wildfire response and help ensure crews are available where they're needed most.

Parmar thanked Mexico for its support, saying wildfire response depends on teamwork, whether help comes from within British Columbia, across Canada or from international partners.

The minister also thanked firefighters from both Canada and Mexico for answering the call to help protect communities, forests and homes during this year's wildfire season.
