Medical masks are once again required in most B.C. health-care settings for both staff and patients.
The Ministry of Health sent a memo to health authorities on Tuesday, although not much publicly has been said about it.
Patients and their companions must wear masks in emergency departments and waiting rooms, with exemptions for kids under five, or those unable to wear a mask due to health reasons.
Healthcare staff need to wear masks in all patient care settings and use more protective equipment, like respirators, in high-risk situations.
The BC Centre for Disease Control said late last month that cases of influenza and RSV were on the rise in BC, as Covid-19 infection remained stable, with the potential for an increase in cases.
The mask requirement will remain in effect until the risk decreases, likely by spring.
