The Comox Regional District has begun a Park Management Planning Process for Maris Nature Park.

The park was established through two donations of land totaling about 44 acres, made possible through the Environment and Climate Change Canada Ecological Gifts Program, which provides a way for owners of ecologically sensitive land to protect nature and leave a legacy for future generations.

The CVRD says it represents a new opportunity for the parks system in the Comox Valley.

The planning process will help establish a long-term vision for the park and identify strategic management goals and actions to protect its natural, cultural, and recreational values.

CVRD Parks staff are looking for feedback on the park’s future.

Residents can complete a short survey through May 30th to identify what park values and features are important to them.

Staff will also be on site to speak with residents and community interest groups at the MARS Wildlife Rescue Open House - it’s happening Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

They will also be on site at the trail entrance at Eagles Drive Park on May 3rd (9am-12pm), and Sarah and Brian McLoughlin Nature Park on May 25th (11am-3pm).

For now, residents are not permitted to enter Maris Nature Park until the management planning process is complete, which should be by winter 2025-2026.

You can learn more and take part in the survey at Comox Valley RD.
