Manitoba RCMP responds to multiple stabbings in Hollow Water First Nation

Friday, September 5, 2025 at 7:37 AM

RCMP in Manitoba continue to investigate a mass stabbing in Hallow Water First Nation on Thursday. Two people are dead - an 18-year old girl and the suspect, who was the girl’s brother.

A First Nation Safety Officer contacted RCMP to advise of an assault. The suspect had fled while Emergency Medical Services were dispatched.

About two hours later, shortly before 6am, RCMP received a call advising of a possible stabbing in the community. Officers from multiple detachments were sent and found a number of individuals suffering from stab wounds.

They were also alerted to a second scene, another residence in the community, where additional victims were located.

In total, eight community members, ranging in age from 18 to 60 years old, sustained injuries.

An 18-year-old girl died as a result of her injuries. Following the stabbings, the suspect, Tyrone Simard, a 26-year-old from Hollow Water First Nation, fled the community in a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was located near Black River First Nation and just before 7am, collided with a police cruiser that was driving northbound to the scene. The suspect died at the scene, while the officer who was injured was transported to hospital with critical but non-life-threatening injuries.
