There were some tense moments for Comox Valley RCMP last week while trying to make an arrest.

Officers became involved in a standoff that Constable Monika Terragni says underscores the dedication of police to protect public safety.

Last Tuesday morning, police went to a residence to apprehend an individual on six outstanding warrants. The person was inside the home - but refused to come out.

Frontline members, assisted by Street Crimes Unit and a Crisis Negotiator made continuous attempts to communicate with the individual, emphasizing their commitment to a peaceful resolution.

The Emergency Response Team was called in. The decision was made to enter the residence, but police say the individual decided to surrender outside before they had a chance to go in.

“We’d like to thank residents for their patience as this was happening.”, said Constable Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.

“Although it takes some time, this is the outcome we are always striving for.”
