Crews will be conducting vegetation maintenance along the trail system on the west side of Puntledge River within BC Hydro’s Puntledge Recreation area beginning Monday.

They’ll be working until January 30th, and recreational users in the area may experience intermittent, short-duration delays or minor detours along River Trail West and Bear Bait Trail.

The work is scheduled to be completed in advance of the bird-nesting window and trail improvements anticipated to begin in May.

The vegetation work is scheduled weekdays between 9am and 4pm.

For crew and public safety, flaggers will be on site, keeping traffic outside of work zones.

Trail users can expect minor delays of up to 15 minutes or to be directed to a detoured route.

BC Hydro maintains its Puntledge River Recreation Area that includes a series of recreation trails on the east and west side of the Puntledge River as well as the Comox Dam Picnic Site located by the north side of the dam.

Trail improvements, including replacement of aging bridges and boardwalks along trails on the west side of Puntledge River, are expected to begin in spring 2026.
