New Democrat MLA Michele Babchuk says funding for a local infrastructure project will improve recreation access for people in the North Island.
The Strathcona Regional District is receiving about $1.3 million in provincial funding, along with another $700 thousand in federal funding, for the Surge Narrows Marine Infrastructure Revitalization Project.
This will increase access to Read Island by reconstructing a boardwalk, dock, and a community building at the site. Babchuk says the project is a welcome addition to the area, which will increase access for everyone.
The funding is part of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
Eight communities across the province received a combination of provincial and federal funding for projects that will support wellbeing, transportation, and protection of the natural environment.
