Local governments across the region are reacting to Tuesday’s deadly shooting in Tumbler Ridge.

The Comox Valley Regional District says its thoughts are with the families and residents of Tumbler Ridge as they respond to the February 10 mass shooting.

In a statement, the Board Chair said tragedies in small communities are felt deeply by everyone and called on residents to come together with care, kindness, and compassion.

The CVRD is also expressing appreciation for emergency personnel and first responders who put their lives at risk every day.

Flags at CVRD fire halls have been lowered to half-mast to mourn the lives lost and to show support for the Tumbler Ridge community.

The City of Campbell River has also lowered flags at all City facilities.

Flags will remain at half-mast through February 17 to honour the victims of the school shooting and to stand in solidarity with the Peace Region community.

In a statement, the City says it is profoundly saddened and shocked by the events.

On behalf of Council and residents, Campbell River is offering condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and says students, staff, and everyone impacted are in their thoughts.

Both local governments are reminding residents that mental health supports are available across BC, including the 310 Mental Health Support line at 310-6789 and the 24-hour crisis line at 1-800-784-2433.
