The City of Campbell River is inviting community members to help shape the future of the community by attending upcoming pop-up events for the Official Community Plan update.
The City is updating its OCP to help guide Campbell River as it grows and develops over the next 20 years.
Since the project began last year, background research has been completed, community input has been gathered, and staff have begun developing draft policies.
Phase 3 involves drafting the plan.
You can see what’s happening so far on Wednesday night at CR Live Streets Rockin’ River Country Night, Wednesday, from 630pm-10pm on Shoppers Row.
Staff will also be at the Campbell River Farmers Market at Spirit Square on Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
They’ll be sharing highlights from a spring community survey, which more than 660 people completed.
Respondents said what they loved most about Campbell River, which included its “breathtaking natural beauty, that small-town feel, the wealth of recreational opportunities, and easy access to water and trails.”
The survey also asked what matters most to people.
Answers ranged from a safe community and housing choices people can afford, to parks and trails, community facilities and amenities, and thoughtful land use planning.
Those who took the survey said there was room for improvement, including making downtown safer with local businesses support, adding more recreation facilities and more housing, improving transportation, and supporting vulnerable residents.
The results are summarized, alongside details on values, ideas, and priorities, in the ‘What We Learned’ report, which is available on the project website, Get Involved Campbell River.
