In Cumberland, residents are invited to celebrate, witness the blessing and raising of two welcome poles and honour the ancestral lands on which the Village is located.

The event will take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm within Peace Park and is being hosted by Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society.

The welcome poles were created for an affordable housing project and will stand in the park until the project is complete.

Local artists Karver Everson and Junior Henderson created the works that ‘’speak to the beauty and resilience of a culture and people that have been the caretakers of the ‘land of plenty’ since time immemorial.’’

Roads around the Peace Park will be closed before things get underway.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
