The Elected Chief Councillor of the K’ómoks First Nation, the Chair of the Comox Valley Regional District and the Mayors of Comox, Courtenay, and Cumberland, have issued a joint statement, saying they will come together in celebration next Wednesday.
The statement said they look forward to gathering to ‘’learn, share and strengthen our relationship as we acknowledge and commemorate the strength, resilience and diversity of Indigenous People.‘’
The statement went on to say that local governments in the Comox Valley have embraced the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People and have formally recognized their commitment to reconciliation.
Residents of the Comox Valley are encouraged to join the festivities from 3 pm to 7 pm next Wednesday, June 21st, across from the Puntledge RV Campground.
It’s a free family event which includes storytelling, dance, culture, craftsmanship, heritage, stewardship and community.
