The King and Queen of England are in Ottawa for a two day visit.
When they land on Monday afternoon, the royals will travel to Lansdowne Park to meet with community members.
The King and Queen will then travel to Rideau Hall to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney and Governor General, Mary Simon, who acts as the representative of the Crown in Canada.
Parliament resumes on Monday for the first time in six months, with King Charles set to deliver the Speech from Throne on Tuesday.
That’s normally something done by the Governor General, but Mary Simon is sitting this one out.
Simon issued a media statement Monday morning.
“The presence of Their Majesties at this pivotal moment in our history holds profound significance. It reaffirms the enduring constitutional bond that has shaped Canada’s journey into a proud and independent nation,” said Simon.
“The Crown’s role in Canada is more than symbolic; it serves as a cornerstone of the democratic freedoms and rights we cherish. The presence of Their Majesties fosters a sense of unity among Canadians, reminding us of the shared values that bring us together --respect, compassion, and hope.”
Prime Minister Mark Carney invited King Charles when he visited Buckingham Palace before last month’s election.
It will be just the third time a sitting monarch has delivered the throne speech. His mother, Queen Elizabeth, delivered them in 1977 and 1952.
