Summer Officially Begins Today

Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 7:41 AM

By Jay Herrington

Summer begins with the solstice on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 7:58 a.m. PST.

It is the first day of summer!

Summer begins (began) with the solstice on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 7:58 a.m. PST, marking the astronomical first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice (aka summer solstice) occurs when the Sun travels along its northernmost path in the sky.

This marks the astronomical start of summer in the northern half of the globe.

In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the opposite: the June solstice marks the astronomical start of winter when the Sun is at its lowest point in the sky.

So enjoy it while it lasts!

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
