A big congratulations to a member of our own - Tchadas Leo - who won big at the Canadian Podcast Awards.

Tchadas and his “Our Native Land” podcast, which airs here on The Raven, has been awarded Outstanding Indigenous Series.

Tchadas is both Indigenous and South American and has been a Vancouver Island resident for the majority of his life.

Prior to the awards being handed out, Podcamp Toronto Chair John Leschinski had said nominees like Tchadas exemplify the wealth of talent in Canada and reflect the unique attitudes, opinions, ideas, values, and creativity of Canadians. The podcast features interviews with guests of all backgrounds, covering topics from Indigenous food, culture, art and more.

Tchadas, who is with The Raven’s Language and Culture Department, can be heard Saturday’s and Sundays on The Raven.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
