Premier David Eby is hosting his western Canadian counterparts in Whistler today.

The western premiers will gather to discuss a variety of topics - climate-related disasters and the costs associated with them will take up a good portion of time.

The premiers have been calling on the federal government for a boost in infrastructure funding to support upgrades that would be more resistant to the effects of climate change.

Eby says without proper upkeep, communities will continue to see economic and trade slowdowns.

Premiers expected at the event including Danielle Smith of Alberta, Scott Moe of Saskatchewan, Heather Stefanson of Manitoba, Ranj Pillai of Yukon, P.J. Akeeagok of Nunavut and Caroline Cochrane of the Northwest Territories.
