School District 72 is highlighting what teachers were up to during their Pro P-Day Day earlier this month.
Staff across the district gathered January 16th for an Indigenous Focused Learning Day, aimed at strengthening understanding, connection and support for Indigenous learners.
Morning sessions at Timberline Secondary focused on identity and connection to place. Author Katherine Palmer Gordon and Brodie Guy led a keynote discussion inspired by This Place Is Who We Are, a book that explores Indigenous leadership, resilience and ties to the land.
Staff learned more about the relationship between culture, land and wellbeing, and how those connections continue to support Indigenous learners.
The Indigenous Education Council also hosted an information session outlining its role, the use of Indigenous targeted funding, and how the council helps guide district planning and programs.
The session highlighted how collaboration with local First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities supports Indigenous learners across the district.
